The Fishmonger Song
By Aaron Bentley

(Description)

Myself, I once was an actor,
And yearly did I tread the boards
Of my high school stage with no pay and no wage
Before the parental hordes.
It's something I've always enjoyed.
Hell, it's in my family tree.
I wondered, would I be employed?
And this is what they said to me:

You'll never be special,
You'll never be new,
And you'll never get rich
Doing what you want to.
And now, simpletons, saviours
And cynics abound.
And I'm selling my soul by the pound.

I've also been a musician:
Piano, flute, ukulele.
I've sung from my heart
To the end from the start
And I started this stuff in grade three.
I never quit playing piano,
'Cause music's a fun thing to do.
Why I kept composing, I don't know.
By that point, I already "knew"

You'll never be special,
You'll never be new,
And you'll never get rich
Doing what you want to.
And now, simpletons, saviours
And cynics abound.
And I'm selling my soul by the pound.
